FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: How do I become a member?
A: All the information, instructions, and forms you need to apply for membership is on the website here: https://www.brgfa.ca/membership.
Q: I have my membership and range cards. Where's my key?
A: Due to a mail-tampering incident in January of 2022 in which a key was stolen in transit, BRGFA is no longer mailing keys. All keys will be distributed in person.
All new members and renewing members who have not completed an orientation since the fall of 2021 will need to do an orientation before receiving their key. Arrangements will need to be made with a range officer or the membership chair for the orientation, at which time you will get your key. If you have done your orientation but do not have a key, you can also make arrangements with them to pick up your key.
Q: My membership has been approved. How do I do my orientation?
A: All new members and renewing members who have not completed an orientation since the fall of 2021 will need to do an orientation before receiving their gate key or using the ranges. Arrangements will need to be made with a range officer or the membership chair. Use the contact form to contact the secretary if you need to get in touch with someone about your orientation and they will forward your request.
Q: How do I get a guest pass?
A: As of 2022 all BRGFA primary members are allowed to bring one guest at a time, up to two times per year. The cost is $25/guest. A guest pass must be approved BEFORE you can bring your guest. The form and instructions are on the website here: https://www.brgfa.ca/brgfa-guest-pass/.
Q: Can I come to a meeting? Can I speak at a meeting?
A: YES. Please do! Anyone is welcome at BRGFA meetings, which are held on the first Wednesday of every month except July & August. Attendees -- whether members or not -- may participate in discussion. Members in good standing may vote on motions that may arise at meetings. If you would like to bring up new business or address the board, the secretary will add you to the agenda. Please submit a request to the Secretary at least two weeks in advance of the relevant meeting. (Email is preferred -- use the contact form or brgfa_news@outlook.com).
Q: How do I find out more about sporting clays at BRGFA?
A: All things sporting clays at BRGFA are run by Dale and Kelly Bourns. Kelly maintains a separate website for sporting clays information, schedules, and registration. Find that here: https://www.brgfasportingclays.ca/
Q: Can I come visit BRGFA before becoming a member?
A: Absolutely! BRGFA hosts several public events during the year, including the CCFR National Range Day in June, and the Gear Swap. These would be great opportunities to come see the property/facilities, and talk to members. You can also arrange a guided visit with one of our board members another time. Please contact the secretary using the contact form.
Q: What are the hours at BRGFA? Who works at BRGFA?
A: BRGFA is a not-for-profit entity, and is run entirely under volunteer power. There is no regular "staff" like you might find at ranges that are run as a business. The board and committees take care of arranging maintenance/repairs, planning events, and taking care of administrative work, among other things. Much of the labour is carried out by the same people!
When you become a member at BRGFA you will receive a key to the gate and can use the rifle range, handgun range, and member-use clay target station on your own schedule within the posted hours of 9am to 9pm/dark. (There are occasional closures due to holidays or special events.) We maintain 24/7 remotely-monitored security cameras, but there is no in-person staffing for the ranges.
At this time volunteering is not a requirement, but please consider donating your time/services and/or physical items to be used for prizes and awards when you become a member. We can't keep BRGFA running without it! Your patience is also appreciated. Everyone involved in keeping BRGFA running has a job, a family, and a life to live on top of what they put into doing things for the Association.
